A 3000 word assignment based on the following scenario: Dementia case study PUP 1182 You are working on an in-patient ward for older adults. A 73 year old widowed lady called Barbara is admitted for assessment following concerns from her relatives that she is becoming more forgetful and is not fully attending to all her daily care needs. Barbara lives alone. However, she is starting to wander around the streets throughout the day and night and frequently becomes lost. The police have been contacted on several occasions to find her and take her to a place of safety. Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease around 6 months ago. She has been prescribed medication to aid her memory function. However, as she has become more forgetful in recent times, some doses are being missed. Barbara has been admitted as an informal patient but clearly states that she does not need to be in hospital. However, her relatives are concerned that she is not functioning well and that a full assessment is necessary. In relation to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4, describe and discuss what you would need to consider in relation to Barbara’s mental health care needs. Points to consider:

In order to pass the module the mark must be 40% or above.

Within your assessment brief there is guidance on the recommended amount of words in which you can effectively address the module learning outcomes. The recommended word count is designed to balance the academic work across your programme, enabling you to effectively meet deadlines and demonstrate achievement in the appropriate academic level i.e. level 4, 5, and 6. This word count is set to enable you to demonstrate graduate abilities in constructing, evaluating, critically analysing or in the analysis of topics to produce evidence supported arguments and applying relevant theories, concept and/ or ideas within a topic area. You may disadvantage yourself by not using the full word count as you will be unable to provide sufficient depth of knowledge or understanding consistent with the level of study and/or insufficiently address the module learning outcomes. Therefore, failure to reach the recommended word count may result in a reduced mark, as you may have failed to discuss and evaluate all relevant points. If you exceed the recommended word count, your mark may be reduced as you are not demonstrating appropriate cognitive skills i.e. synthesis, critical appraisal or analysis consistent with the learning outcomes, work maybe descriptive in a nature, or you have included irrelevant content which does not contribute to the topic. This could also result in the learning outcome not being met, resulting in a fail grade being awarded.
