Critical Technical Review
Critical Technical Review Requirements and Marking Criteria
Write a critical technological review document. This task involves research and discussion of a technical issue of relevance to society. The style of the document is to be targeted towards a newspaper technical supplement.
Select one of the following topics for your critical technological review.
- Discuss a complex engineering project. Some examples include the smartphones, Google search, Facebook, Reddit, quantum satellite, artificial neural networks, self-driving cars, etc.
- “How does modern technology shape our society or vice versa?” You can choose one or several examples of modern technology, such as the Internet, search engine, social networking, smart phones, nanotechnology, stem-cell research, artificial intelligence, etc.
The review should be no less than 1,500 and no greater than 1,800 words in length. Your review should present a concise and coherent technical explanation and appraisal of the chosen topic. As a guide, you should imagine that you are writing for an intelligent, but non-specialist readership. (The kind of thing you might find as a “Technology Supplement” in the Sydney Morning Herald.)
