Case Study Guidelines:
|
What you are being asked to do is to think about yourself as a student of Social and Community Work and what you might want to do in your future career. You are being asked to acknowledge that Social and Community Work is a vast topic which covers many different groups. You are also being asked to identify your skills and interests and highlight them in this case study.
|
You could begin by asking yourself the following questions:
|
- Why have I chosen this course?
- What do I want to do in the future?
- Where do I see myself in 5 years’ time?
- What am I good at?
- How do I know I am good at this?
- What is your theory of social and community work?
- What do you hope academically you will gain from the course?

Begin to make notes for your case study.
1:

Thinking about all of the above, write a short introduction which tells the reader:
What the case study is about, using yourself as the subject.
You might say something like:
As a Social and Community work student I am preparing for a career in the field. My interests and skills are well suited to working with children and families and I aim to achieve the highest possible academic degree I can. This case study will highlight my personal and professional stance on the notion of social and community work as well as how my skills and interests are best suited to this profession.

2:
|
Thinking about you as a student and future practitioner, discuss your theories of social and community work, why you think it is something you want to do, what skills you have or want to develop to make you a good worker. What area of the field are you interested in and why. What theories have been discussed in lectures and described in the additional reading you have done that support your theories (or perhaps do not support your theories). Remember to say whose theories these are and reference them in your writing.
