- To explore and critique reasons as to why and how buildings are converted, adapted and extended, as an alternative to a new building.
You work as a Surveyor for the Housing Association and have been assigned to critically explore and critique reasons as to why and how buildings are converted, adapted and extended, as an alternative to a new building. Using a specific building in the United Kingdom, you are required to perform the following task:
- Identify a converted, adapted or extended well-known building in the United Kingdom. Briefly explain the transformation of the building to the current use including the location.
- Identify and discuss various factors that must have influenced the adapted, converted, or extended building.
- Critically identify and explain the structural and non-structural constraints that need to be taken care of in other to meet the new purpose. Give reasons why any specific structural and non-structural element will need to be reused.
- Briefly explain why you think the new use is reasonable and economically viable.
- Harvard referencing system must be used, and at least 4 or more different sources should be evident.
