Assessment Task:

In relation to the case study provided on the next page of this guide you are required to set out and present a detailed intervention plan and an evaluation of your plan.  You will need to identify and justify the important aspects of your decision-making process.  These should relate to:

(a) The Plan

• Identify the signs and symptoms of abuse and protective factors that are relevant to the case including the quality and impact of relationships and focus on these whilst acknowledging other key areas.
• Set out the law and procedural requirements of statutory social work agencies.
• Consider how to work in partnership within multidisciplinary processes to achieve best outcomes for the children and family families.
• Decide what services and supports are needed in the case and how they will make a difference.
• Consider and evaluate the knowledge base from research evidence and theory that informs practice and the plan.

 (b) Evaluation of Plan

• What do you consider the strengths/weaknesses of your plan?
• What dilemmas were raised in relation to balancing the rights of children with those of parents/carers?
• How far in your view is the plan likely to achieve an improved position for the child/children?
