The submission is in the form of a portfolio of factsheets and an organization chart. The factsheets should be written in a concise style to summarise and highlight key information and data. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs and subsections as appropriate, and all work must be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system. Assignment Brief and Guidance:

Scenario 1

You have been employed as an assistant business analyst by a large multinational organization [named organization/an organization of your choice – your own place of work if appropriate], to investigate different types and sizes of business they will have to compete with.

Submit a report.

You are required to investigate and explain three different types of organisations falling in different sectors, i.e. private, public and voluntary, their size and classification to highlight differences between them. This should include their legal structure, size and scope, as well as their key stakeholders.

For one of the organisations, you must then explain the various functions within the business and create an organisational chart to explain the interrelationships between different functions. You must also explain how this would be different in the other organisations.

This will be presented as a report to the CEO and should include the following:

  1. Introduction to provide an overview of different types of organisations and the growth of the international business environment.
  2. An explanation of each of the chosen organisations, including: background details of the organisation, type of the organisations (public, private and voluntary sectors), their vision, mission and business objectives; the products and services they supply; the organisational and legal structure that is associated with different forms of business: sole traders, partnerships and private limited companies etc.
  3. An explanation of the size and scope of the chosen organisations in terms of market share, profit share, global growth and development; also include information about their stakeholders.
  4. An explanation on whether your selected organisations are Micro, Small, Medium Sized or Large. The explanation should also include how franchising, joint ventures and licensing affect your selected companies. You may highlight the competitive analysis that can determine the size and scope of the chosen organisations.
  5. Then, make an analysis on how the structure, size and scope of different organisations link to the business objectives and product and services offered by the organisation.The analysis may include the impact of market forces your selected organisation and the industrial structure.
  6. An explanation on the relationship between different organizational functions and explain how they link to the objectives and structure of the organization. The interrelationship can be demonstrated in a chart followed with the theoretical explanation.

The explanation should include the role of various functions including marketing, finance, human resource management and operations within the organisational context and how they relate to the overall organisation mission and objectives. You are required to particularly relate the functions with the organisation structure including bureaucratic and post-bureaucratic, parent, strategic business units (SBUs), matrix and functional levels.

  1. Critical analysis on the complexities of different types of business structures and the interrelationships of the different organisational functions for the selected organisations. You have to provide a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of the three organisational structures considering the complexities and interrelationship the functions.
