For this assignment, please choose one such recent CSR effort carried out by a particular company, either, a) participation in a multi-stakeholder regulatory initiative aimed at making business practices more ethical and/or sustainable, or b) some other form of green or ethical marketing initiative.

 

Conducting extensive research on that CSR effort in both the academic literature and quality news sources, as well as on the websites of companies and civil society organisations that have been involved in, or concerned about, such efforts, please prepare a report with the following four sections, of approximately 500 words each:

 

Section 1) Describe your chosen CSR effort and the company’s role in it, providing in-text citations for a wide range of sources;

 

Section 2) With reference to Crane (2001), please analyse how the company has been working to boost its brand value through this particular CSR effort;

 

Section 3) Critically analyse the implications of this CSR effort from the perspective of three different stakeholder groups; and,

 

Section 4) Applying Levy and Kaplan’s (2009) framework, critically assess to what extent this initiative represents an opening of opportunities for the civil regulation of business activities (rather than simply a privatisation of regulation.)

 

 

This report does not have to take the form of a classic academic essay (with a thesis statement and clear line of argumentation developed throughout the text); but please do include a brief introduction at the beginning, and a brief conclusion at the end of your report -- consisting of two or three sentences each.
