We have explored a variety of techniques utilised in biological psychology and related disciplines to know the structure and functioning of our nervous system, and more specifically of the brain. Several of these techniques assume a modular view according to which the cognitive system is formed by numerous modules functioning independently of each other, and each module is located in a specific brain area. However, many authors argue that extensive interactions occur throughout the brain, and that the human cognitive processing is more flexible than the modular model suggests. However, is this an open debate, or is there sufficient evidence to close it in favour of one or the other position?
