What am I required to do in this assignment?

Assessment 1 investigates a key issue in the sustainable business management of organisations.

Use the case study provided to write a formal academic report that discusses the use of the waste hierarchy in delivering the business case for sustainability.

This means you should demonstrate your understanding of these two key ideas by applying the theoretical ideas covered in the unit teaching and readings to the case study. You must make sure you anchor your research on the case study in academic theory and use examples from the case study to support your answer. You need to use good sources of information and correctly reference the source of your ideas.

There will be the opportunity for formative feedback through an individual presentation / discussion during our seminar sessions 

Note: Failure to submit A1 will trigger an automatic viva on submission of the second assessment.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)

Submit your work through BREO by the deadline

• Produce a report evidencing individual research using academic journals listed in the UIF and research about the company given in the assignment task

• Demonstrate your application of knowledge about how sustainability poses at least two areas of threats and opportunities to the case study business

• Report on at least four practical issues and solutions for the business case provided

• Evidence critical reasoning using Harvard style of referencing

You need to be available for a viva if called following the submission of your work. Non-attendance counts as non-submission

We will be filling this section in together in class on week 1: make sure you have downloaded/printed out the Assignment Brief and bring it to the session with you.

How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?

Class sessions will help you understand the practice and theory behind the concept of sustainable business management. You will know about how sustainability issues present both opportunities and threats to business management and the need for business to think sustainably, and what this means in theory and practice.

You will have the ability to work collaboratively on a real-life issue of business sustainability and develop (and report on) practical solutions to business. Intellectually, you will also develop your ethical decision making and strategic thinking skills and the ability to critically apply theory to practice and visa versa.
