Question 1

Your employer, a medium-sized general contractor, has been commissioned to design and build a small-scale construction project of a2-storeys building in a local park. You are an Assistant Engineer of that contractor, your employer has asked you to make use of a set of shop drawings from your previous colleague and modify them for the purpose of formal submission to the client before the actual site works can commence.(Shop drawings are as attached).

Construction Information Review (including CAD/BIM)

Your employer has requested you a written report which will explain the features and use of construction information for different Hong Kong project types, describing them and giving examples of their use. By comparing related types of information, you will highlight the suitability of these for different types or scale of Hong Kong projects.

Your definitions should include an assessment of the different participants involved in the production of different types of information, and examine the relationships between the different types of information and how they are used together.

Within your report, you should also include the definition of CAD and BIM; comparing how they are used in the collaborative development of construction information.

Question 2

Task 3 – Interpret different types of construction information

In the Construction Information Review, you will use a set of construction information provided to you to relate drawings to the specification and evaluate the drawings and details, to identify clashes within the information. Further, you will use this review to critique the information and identify errors and discrepancies across the various elements. Within the review, you will propose corrections to drawings and specifications; using industry-standard notation/mark-up.
