The Business Environment (401MAN) – Understanding What This Module Is Really About

At first glance, this module looks like it`s about businesses and markets in general. Once students start working through the content, they quickly realise it`s really about understanding why organisations succeed, struggle, adapt, or sometimes fail when the world around them changes.

In this assignment, you`re looking at a sports organisation as a business operating in a constantly evolving environment. The task goes beyond simply describing a sports club, governing body, or sporting organisation. Instead, you`re expected to explore how external pressures such as technology, politics, economics, consumer behaviour, media influence, sustainability concerns, and stakeholder demands shape strategic decisions.

One of the reasons students often enjoy this module is that it connects directly to real-world events. Whether it`s changes in broadcasting rights, sponsorship deals, fan expectations, government regulations, or the growing influence of social media, the sports industry provides plenty of examples of organisations having to adapt to survive. The challenge is taking these real-world examples and turning them into a structured academic analysis.

Why Students Often Find This Assignment More Difficult Than Expected

Many students assume that because they follow sport, the assignment will be straightforward. The reality is that understanding sport and analysing a sports organisation as a business are two very different things.

This presentation requires students to think strategically and critically about how organisations interact with their environments and stakeholders.

Common areas where students struggle include:

  • Choosing relevant micro and macro environmental factors
  • Applying business models instead of simply describing them
  • Linking environmental forces directly to organisational decisions
  • Analysing stakeholder expectations in sufficient depth
  • Demonstrating critical thinking rather than listing information
  • Balancing academic theory with current industry examples
  • Fitting enough analysis into a 10-minute presentation

A lot of students also find it difficult to move beyond describing what an organisation does and instead explain why environmental pressures matter and how they influence future decisions. This is often the difference between an average presentation and a high-scoring one.

How Assignment Experts Can Help

At Assignment Experts, we`ve noticed that students rarely struggle with understanding sport itself. The bigger challenge is knowing how to apply business theories to a sports context and present those ideas professionally within a limited presentation timeframe.

Many students find themselves overwhelmed by questions such as:

"Which environmental forces are actually important?"

"How much stakeholder analysis is enough?"

"Am I analysing or just describing?"

This is where expert academic support can make a real difference. We help students develop clear, structured, and well-researched assignments that address the marking criteria while maintaining a strong academic standard.
