Knowledge and Understanding
Assessed intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this assessment, you will be able to:
1. Practice independently and confidently, as a role model, and in so doing demonstrate systematic critical understanding of accountable, safe, compassionate, person-centred, evidence-based nursing care which represents and maintains dignity and human rights and promotes this through reflection within recognised professional/inter professional, ethical, socio-political and legal frameworks relating to practice.
2. Reflect on your effectiveness and competency as a nurse in order to recognise the limits of your competence, seek advice from and refer to other professionals in a timely manner, make appropriate adjustments to own practice and demonstrate learning from experience to enhance the safety and wellbeing of service users and carers.
3. Critically evaluate and reflect on how one’s and others’ communication style, values and belief systems impact on people, teams and inter-agency working from knowledge of underlying concepts and principles of communication.
Word count
Each of the three reflective log entries should be 500 words in length. Your total word count should therefore be 1500 words. This word count does not include your end reference list.
The final word count of your log should be provided at the end of the template. In accordance with the University Assessment and Feedback Policy 2022, if you do not meet the minimum word count, markers may determine that the task has not been completed in accordance with instructions and reflect this in the mark awarded. Although no penalty will be applied for exceeding the word count, markers will stop considering content for the purpose of grading and feedback once the stated maximum length has been exceeded.
Academic Misconduct is an action which may give you an unfair advantage in your academic work. This includes plagiarism, asking someone else to write your assessment for you or taking notes into an exam. The University takes all forms of academic misconduct seriously.
For this assessment the use of tools, software, or features of software which use artificial intelligence to generate content such as text, images or data, is not authorised. The work you submit must be entirely your own, representing your own abilities and ideas. Use of AI to generate a response to questions in this assessment, or the assessment brief, is academic misconduct. Reliance upon AI tools will also become problematic for you both in further study and your future career as the knowledge, critical and analytical thinking required for this assessment are essential, foundational skills you are expected to acquire and develop independently.
This is the template that must be used, this can be found on the Leading and Empowering in Integrated Nursing Practice BB site.
Critical Reflective Log Template: Exposures to Other Fields of Practice
Throughout your programme, you are expected to gain experience in the philosophy of the different fields of practice and engage in meaningful experiences. Based on these experiences, you must write a series of reflective commentaries in your PDR, considering the differences between each field. For your summative academic assessment for ‘Leading & Empowering in Integrated Nursing Practice’ module, you will submit via Turnitin a Reflective Log (using the template provided below) critically analysing your exposures to three separate fields of practice using work within your PDR. Each of the three entries in your Log must include the following to meet the assessment criteria:
Brief description of the exposure in theoretical learning or practice learning in simulation or placement.
Examine one difference between your exposure and your own field of practice supported by evidence.
Discussion of your learning and how it will benefit your practice as a future registered nurse supported by evidence.
Mapping to the NMC platforms of proficiency standards (NMC, 2018) e.g. 1, 5, 6...
To map your reflective log entries, you will use the NMC’s seven platforms of proficiency standards as listed below:
Being an accountable professional
Promoting health and preventing ill health
Assessing needs and planning care
Providing and evaluating care
Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams
Improving safety and quality of care
Co-ordinating care

Each reflective log entry must be at least 500 words, with an overall word count of 1500 words.
See assessment brief for further advice and details.
