Summative Assignment Task

You are required to prepare a group submission consisting of an in-class oral group presentation of 15- minutes. You must also submit the slides from this pitch to Moodle. Immediately following the pitch, your assessor will conduct a Q&A session with the group (15 minutes). This assignment provides an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the module learning outcomes. You will receive an individual score / grade for this assessment.

There are weekly formative tasks which are outlined in the module handbook which will contribute towards completion of your summative assignment.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO1

Apply entrepreneurial mindset and characteristics to develop business opportunities in a team.

LO2

Evaluate the difference between business ideas, entrepreneurial opportunities, opportunity recognition and creation.

LO3

Analyse and apply design-thinking techniques to develop potential entrepreneurial opportunities.

LO4

Analyse approaches to developing, managing and leading individuals and teams from start-up to growth stage of organisational development.

Assessment task

In your group, you will deliver a 15-minute pitch presenting a business idea generated by your group, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session, where you will respond to questions about the feasibility, scalability and sustainability of your idea. This assessment challenges you to work within a team to identify and develop a viable entrepreneurial opportunity.

Through a role-playing exercise, you will each assume different entrepreneurial roles in your start-up, utilise available resources and deliver a structured pitch covering market research, business modelling and team dynamics.

The Case

The global business environment is rapidly evolving, driven by innovation, digital transformation, and shifting consumer demands. Entrepreneurs play a critical role in identifying opportunities, developing innovative solutions, and scaling ventures successfully.

A fictional investor played by your assessor during your pitch is offering £250,000 in seed funding to a team of entrepreneurs who can present a compelling and viable business opportunity. Your team has been selected to develop and pitch a business idea that demonstrates strong market potential, a clear problem- solution fit, and a sustainable model for growth.

Each member of your team will take on a specific entrepreneurial role to bring the opportunity to life, ensuring that the business is market-driven, financially viable, and operationally scalable. The roles are CEO (chief executive officer), CFO (chief financial officer), COO (chief operations officer) and CMO (chief marketing officer). Your team can consist of 3 to 4 members.

You and your team will have access to:

  • A GBS-provided AI tool specifically designed for this module (GBEN5001 - Module 1 AI tool) which will assist in developing your design, product or technology.
  • In the class - an incubator space where you and your team can develop your idea.
  • In the class - access to hypothetical networking events, investor meet-ups and industry mentors.
