The effectiveness of a business’s approach to communication can often be critical to the achievement of strategic and operational objectives. The ways in which a business connects with its internal and external stakeholders, and overcomes different barriers to communication, will determine its short and long-term success. The aim of this unit is, therefore, to provide learners with the fundamental knowledge and skills to engage in meaningful and appropriate communication irrespective of the context in which the communication is located.

Using an organisation you are familiar with, write an essay in which you;

  • consider the differences between internal and external communication.
  • consider ways in which the business communicates internally and externally.
  • use an appropriate technique to analyse the business’ internal and external stakeholders with a focus on stakeholder communication.

To evidence your development as an effective communicator you are to produce a portfolio which includes the following;

  • an initial assessment of your communications skills.
  • evidence of verbal, non-verbal and written communication which you have demonstrated through the first part of your course. This is likely to be assessment submissions and tutor feedback from other units in the qualification, or evidence from activities which take place outside of a formal teaching environment.
