The Bloomberg Terminal is a computer system provided by Bloomberg L.P. that enables professionals in finance and other industries to access the Bloomberg Professional service through which users can monitor and analyze real-time financial market data movements and place trades on the electronic trading platform. The system also provides news, price quotes, and messaging across its proprietary secure network. Most large financial firms have subscriptions to the Bloomberg Professional Service via the Bloomberg Terminal. Knowing how to use the Bloomberg Terminal is a must if you want a job in the financial industry (especially on the buy side). As a student at UMass Boston, you will be required to set up a personal login (it is free of charge) in order to be able to use the terminal.

3.1 Select a Stock

Please pick any one company (other than Apple Inc.) from the 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) Index as of September 2017. Obtain the company name and the stock ticker. Then do the following steps:

Obtain the yield curve on U.S. government debt on these two dates: 08/19/2004 and 09/19/2016, respectively. Please stack the two yield curves on the same graph for comparison. For example, on which of the two day the yield curve is steeper? Also, suppose that an investor can borrow at the short-term rate and lend at the rate of the long-end, which of the two yield curves is more favorable to him/her? Please briefly explain why.
