Introduction

This paper reflects on my work placement experience at Bright Future Events Ltd, a UK-based events management company, where I worked as an Events Assistant Intern. I researched several organisations across the events and hospitality industry to identify a suitable placement. Criteria for selection included relevance to my academic programme, location, scope of work, and learning opportunities. After evaluating companies such as EventPro UK, Sparkle Events, and Bright Future Events Ltd, I chose Bright Future Events due to their strong reputation, diverse event portfolio, and willingness to accept interns for practical training.
Negotiating the Work Experience
I negotiated the placement details with both my academic supervisor and the events manager at Bright Future Events. The proposal included a four-week internship involving event planning, logistics support, client liaison, and on-site coordination. Both supervisors agreed to the proposal after discussions about my academic goals and the business’s needs.
Recognising Business Constraints
The company faced certain constraints, such as limited staff availability for intern supervision, confidentiality agreements, and budget limitations for intern training. I recognised these issues and agreed to a flexible work schedule and signed a confidentiality agreement. I also acknowledged that some high-level tasks would be restricted to permanent staff.
