Summary of assessment task and rationale

This module is assessed by a staged written assessment that constitutes a project. The Project will focus on an issue selected by the student where improvement of practice is required, outlining the evidence-based strategies for achieving this enhancement. The student will carry out a literature review pertaining to this issue, the student will indicate evidence-based strategies for improving the issue and identify a change management strategy to achieve this which will lead to the development of an artefact/tool which is then pitched to peers and service users. The student will develop a business case for the development of the artefact/tool that will justify their strategy, risk assess the artefact/tool and outline the financial costs for developing and implementing the artefact/tool.

Word limit / Length

8,000 words

It is permissible to exceed the stated word limit by up to 10%, without penalty. Assignments which exceed these limits are liable to be penalised by the deduction of 5 marks per 1000 words excess (e.g. If a 1000 word assignment, 5 marks off for 1101-2000 words, 10 marks off for 2101-3100 words, and so on). The deduction of this word limit penalty will take place at the relevant Module Awards Board and therefore the initial grade you see via Turnitin may change.

Guidance on the completion of the assessment task

Students are asked to produce an 8,000 word extended project that identifies a problem in practice that requires change. Students are asked to identify and artefact that could be introduced to improve the clinical problem. The students will critically review the literature pertaining to the problem and the artefact. Students will devise a business plan to justify the artefact/tool. The students will pitch their artefact/tool to a group. The students will critically debate the leadership and change theories used to support their management of the change process.

Introduction: The students should construct an introduction to set the scene and discuss the content of the extended project. Students should introduce the problems and include relevant policy, theory and research.

  • Stage 1 – Complete a justification and devise an artefact/tool relating to an issue that requires improvement.
  • Stage 2 Write a critical literature review that explores the topic area in order to justify the topic.
  • Stage 3-Construct a business plan to justify the artefact/tool. This should identify risks, costs and benefits to service users and the organization.
  • Stage 4- Critically discuss the leadership and change theories that would be used to support the innovation process. Your work should draw upon key policy drivers, leadership styles, change theory and models, current supporting research studies and should use the required APA referencing format.
  • Stage 5- pitch the artefact to a small group of peers and service users.

Conclusion. You should include a conclusion summarising your key points and highlighting innovations for future practice.

  • Use the required APA referencing format.
  • All material submitted into the project must respect confidentiality and any acts or omissions that have the potential for harm will result in fail grades.
