Coursework 

Assignment

This is a group coursework. You will work in a group of four or five on a real case study of a small and medium-sized business addressing a specific issue or a perceived problem. The company will make a presentation in the class or online to present the case. As a group you will be allocated time to work on the case. You should evaluate the information provided and might wish to seek and collect data and information that will allow you to analyse the issues involved and provide solutions to perceived problems. You can also consider future risks and opportunities based on evidence and your analysis. You will then be asked to do a short presentation to the company presenting your group analysis, solutions and recommendations.   

After the presentation, the company will provide you with feedback, which you can apply while doing a further analysis in your groups, and include it in your report with the solution and your proposal on how it can be implemented. 

The assessment of this assignment consists of two components: 

Part 1:  Hackathon: You contribute to a Hackathon by analyzing a business case and providing and presenting a credible solution. You will provide a reflective summary on your participation to the event. 

During the event students will be going through the following steps: 

• Introduction to the challenge – 22th October workshop 

The company will introduce a real life challenge and will answer any questions students may have. 

• Team work  

Students will work in their teams and will formulate have time to formulate their ideas 

• Present your solution  - 16th November 

Students present their ideas to staff and company’s representatives. 

You should prepare a short PPP slides presentation, which you will submit on Canvas, at the same time with your report, before the presentation.  

Part 2: Report  

Students are asked to submit a group report explaining the problem and their recommendations and solutions and a proposal on how the case study company can implement proposed solution.  

Indicative structure of the report: 

• Introduction  
• Case study company information
• Analysis of the case and identification of the challenge and opportunities
• Collection of additional data and information
• Evaluation of the challenge and propose solution and course of action
• Feasibility of the proposed solution, risk factors, sensitivity analysis
• Reflection and report on the team work  
• References

The word limit for your report is 2,000 words, excluding tables, graphs, references and appendix. The report should be submitted on Canvas as a Word document.

Your PPP file should also be submitted at the same time, on Canvas.

Marking scheme

The assignment provides the opportunity to evaluate your Team’s approach to analysing and solving the problem; the ability to manage a Team and the quality of your teamwork. You will be marked for the quality of your analysis; the originality and feasibility of your recommendations; the quality of the collected data and information employed in the analysis; the structure and completeness of the report and the quality of the collected data and information employed in the analysis and the quality of your presentation.

It is important to demonstrate a clear logic in your analysis and innovative approach in your and recommendations and have a persuasive discussion and presentation.

1) Quality of analysis, including the quality of the data and information employed. (40 marks)

2) Originality and feasibility of your recommendations (20 marks)

3) Structure and completeness of the report and the quality of the collected data and information employed in the analysis (10 marks)

4) Quality of presentation (30 marks) Total 100 marks
