Introduction

Project management is more than just meeting deadlines, it’s about applying structured methods to ensure success while considering ethical, commercial, and social responsibilities. During this module, I worked in a group of five to manage and deliver a collaborative project. Our group developed a tangible software solution, and throughout the process, we applied recognised project management principles such as those found in PRINCE2 and Agile methodologies.

Project Overview

Our project involved developing a web-based task management tool designed to help students organise their assignments and deadlines. The final product was a responsive web application that allowed users to create, edit, prioritise, and track tasks.

We documented our progress using:

• A Gantt chart to track project timelines.

• A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to allocate tasks.

• A Risk Register to assess and manage potential risks.

• Weekly meeting minutes and progress logs.

Project Management Methodology: Agile

We chose to use Agile methodology, particularly the Scrum framework, because it supports:

• Flexibility in changing project requirements.

• Frequent feedback through short sprints.

• Continuous collaboration among group members.

Each week was treated as a sprint, with tasks allocated during sprint planning sessions and progress reviewed in our weekly retrospectives.

Professional and Ethical Context

We considered several ethical and professional principles during our project, such as:

• Data privacy: Ensuring any mock data used in testing did not violate personal information standards.

• Intellectual property: Citing all libraries and resources used in our application.

• Fair contribution: We agreed at the beginning that all group members would contribute equally, and we held each other accountable.

• Accessibility: We made our web application colour-blind friendly and compatible with screen readers.

Our ethical decisions were based on the ACM Code of Ethics and BSI Project Management Code of Practice.
