Impact of using Related Reading Activities on EFL Reading Comprehension of Saudi College Students
Students are supposed to complete some activities related to the reading class before the class. The study tries to investigate the impact of these activities on their reading comprehension and motivation. It is assumed we had two groups: one group is having a regular reading class where students do some pre-reading activities and warming ups in class; the other reading group is
doing some related reading activities at home before the class. Some of the related reading activities that can students do at home before the reading class (by "related" it is meant that these activities are related to the reading passage that will be done in class)
1- assigning similar or relative reading texts or passages to the class reading topic
2- asking students to answer some questions prepared by the teacher on the content of the class reading
3- asking students to make questions and bring them to the reading class and discuss them in groups
4- asking students to writing do a writing log about the the class reading
5- assigning a relative video to watch (students watch a video related to the class reading before the the class)
6- assigning some words either from the passages t be read in class or related to them and asking
students to do some exercises about them background: 1- reading course. 3 hours per week for a 13-week semester 2- control groups 32 students, experimental group 29 students The Research methodology to be used is quantitative. In this study, the independent variable is "reading activities before the class. The dependent variable is “improvement of reading comprehension
and motivation. Research result should be presented quantitatively using charts, tables and numbers
