The impact of Building information modelling on quantity surveyors

All information needed to complete final dissertation (B)

To reiterate everything for the understanding of the dissertation. Initially Dissertation A was conducted. 3000 words completed which is weighted 20% of the module as the proposal. Dissertation B weighted 80% with 12000 max words, from introduction to conclusion.

Simply, Dissertation B is Dissertation A plus 9000 words. So, it’s just expanding on dissertation A. So in essence Dissertation b must flow with dissertation A. it`s just extra words.

Already completed: 3k Dissertation A – includes:

·         Intro - 1 k

·         Literature review - 1 k

·         Methodology - 1k

·         Conclusion - 200 words or so

1 - Abstract – includes:

• 3: And purpose of investigation (roughly 200 words) I will attach an example.

4 - Introduction – 

• roughly 1000 done from Dissertation A/B mix.  
• Feedback from teacher on dissertation A: the Hypothesis discussion is a little confusing and could benefit from further explanation. Aims and objectives could be a little more refined as their individual effect/impact upon the quantity surveyor as an individual and as part of the professional team

5 - Literature review – includes:  

• 3000 words total – 1 review achieving objective, another review achieving the other objective and case study achieving on of the 2 objectives between “Examining how BIM will affect the construction industry” or “to determine how BIM has affected quantity surveying and who/what is in control of it”
• First review – Dis A lit – Achieving either objective “examining how BIM will affect the construction industry” or “To determine how BIM has affected quantity surveying and who/what is in control of it”
• Second review – achieving either one of the objectives I’ve already mentioned just above. Check methodology “flow chart” from Dissertation A
• Third review - 1000 words (case study) achieving the “Secondary research objective” one of the two objectives under aim 1.

6 - methodology –

7 - Data collection and analysis – includes:

• Interview data – 2000 word
• Questionnaire data – 2500 words

8 - Discussion & conclusion

• 2000 words total
• Discussion – should make appropriate use of literature and data
• Conclusion - highlight key findings, you should aim to make this the section with maximum impact

9 - Recommendation - 

• I will attach the example dissertation and check to see how they did it. Roughly same number of words as example dissertation B
• Roughly 200 word count

10 - Reflection – 

• check example dissertation B and roughly the same number of words.
• Roughly 300 word count

Interview Data analysis - 

• Analyse the 3 interviewee respondents by seeing themes and patterns through their responses, I will attach the word document of the data below. I will also attach a previous dissertation of someone else. They have very similar questions, and you can see how they have analysed it. I will attach this below.

• You don’t have to analyse all questions, start analysis from question 8 to question 17.
• Interviews were conducted via zoom for covid related reasons and easier for interviewee since it’s a more reliable approach.

Questionnaire data –

•  I will attach a word and excel document. The word document has the tables I would like you to use, I have added a few comments for better understanding of data, and you can also check the excel document. 
• The word document has Q10 which is a qualitative data, get 2 responses or 4 and analyse them the same way the interview is done.  
• 2500 words
• Analyse as many questions from question 6 to 18. If word count isn’t enough then analyse less questions if needed.
•  Qualtrics is used to gather data, links were sent through linked in. (Sent over 150 messages and received max 50 responses through linked in)
